I’m so happy that this book is getting such great reception and will get into the hands of more kids–and inspire them to explore! I wrote this book to encourage kids to try something new, to be open to new experiences and new people, and to go on adventures whether it’s close to home or faraway. The book includes practical travel tips like how to pack, take public transport, convert money, and deal with time differences, but my goal was really just to inspire a sense of wanderlust and adventure in every kid’s life. There is a great big world out there to discover–and it starts right in your own backyard.
Launched in 2007, the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards are intended to bring increased recognition to exemplary children’s books and their creators, and to celebrate children’s books and life-long reading.
From their press release: “Raising kids isn’t easy, with so many dangers out there in both the real and cyber world. It requires a balance of wonderment and practicality while teaching children how to be safe and secure, but also to learn, grow, explore — and to go out into the world and make it a better place. That is why the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards exist – to honor those who create the books that give kids a sense of wonder, and encourage them to do great things. “
